Will my HP Pavilion 540n go "crazy" if I put a Gig of RAM in it?
Hi every one I need help!! I've had this HP Pavilion 540n for over 4 years, never had any major problem but it's running very slow... (1.6 GHz processor and 256MB RAM), I know how to upgrade RAM, but before I purchase I would like to know if this processor will be able to handle a Gig, because some people have told me just to upgrade to 512, but I really want a Gig, however I want to know if there could be some kind of conflict. Thank you!
you can get a gig if u want to the processor don't handle it your bios does so as long as your bios supports it then yes go get that gig stick

What is the maximum amount of RAM supported by the HP Pavilion 540N?
It has Pentium 4 1.6 GHz Processor, I have looked every where on the Internet and half the pages say this machine will support 1GB, but the other half say it will support 2GB. Any body know for sure how much it will take, and how much do you guys recommend. Thanx

I unplugged my hp pavilion 540n due to bad weather, when i plugged it back in, windows logo popped up then the?
the screen went black , the system is running, but the monitor shows a black screen. any suggestions?
did that to no avail. the tower is not going into sleep mode, just windows logo pops up and acts like it's loading, but stays black screen
also tried another monitor, with same results
do a hard power down (hold power button for 8 seconds) then turn it back on to see if it resets itself, if it does not, then take a flashlight and point it at the screen to see if you can see any writing or images (if so then your backlight went out)
Destructive system recovery on HP Pavilion 540n?
The HP site says to remove recently installed hardware before doing a system recovery. The DVD drive and video card are easy enough to unplug, but do I have to take the added RAM out too? I don't even have the original RAM anymore. Do I even have to any of it out?
You should not have to take anything out. I would even try it with the video card in. If it doesn't work, then you know you have to do a system recovery again by taking one thing out at a time. I bet it will work. But if not, get the video card out first...and use onboard video if you have it, then reinstall the video card afterwards. The most the recovery will do is stall or tell you it cannot proceed and you will know it is one or more pieces of hardware.
