Will the hp pavilion dm1z notebook be good to play, star wars: the old republic?
Laptops were never meant for gaming, desktops are. They do have gaming laptops nowadays, but they overheat on hardcore games. That hp pavilion dm1z has integrated (onboard) graphics, thus is not good to play games on it. You need something with dedicated graphics (card) and at least 512MB or 1GB GPU for gaming.

Should I buy the HP Pavilion dm1z?
I'm a freshman college student and I will probably need to use the internet alot and type papers. Maybe watch movies on it occasionally. Will this be a good choice?
That should work just fine for you then. Any laptop can do that nowadays, so it's just a matter of how much you want to pay.
HP Pavilion dm1z--good student computer?
I'm going into college, so I'd like to get a laptop. I'm on a pretty tight budget (under $500) so my options are pretty limited. I don't really need good graphics; just something with good battery life, a big enough screen and keyboard to write and read papers, decent RAM etc., and portability.
The dm1z seems like it fits all these criteria as well as being available for about $420 right now: anyone have an opinion on it? Any other suggestions for a student computer?
YES IT WOULD BE A GREAT CHOICE OFCOURSE.ITS BASED ON AMD'S ZACATE PLATFORM.IT USES APU {APU=CPU+GPU} THAT MEANS YOU WILL GET BETTER GRAPHICS,PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY LIFE.ABOUT DM1Z,HP CLAIMS TO HAVE UPTO 9.5HRS BATTERY LIFE WHICH IS ALMOST TRUE.SO IF YOU ARE STUDENT THEN THATS THE BEST BUY.BUT IF YOU NEED A LARGER SCREEN THEN GO FOR ASPIRE AS-5253 IT GOT SAME AMD'S APU BUT BATTERY LIFE LAGS. ITS UPTO 4 HRS ONLY. :)
